Wednesday, 5 September, for the much-awaited two-plus-two dialogue with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to be held on Thursday. Speaking to the traveling US media, Pompeo said that issues like India buying Russian missile defense system and Iranian oil export to India will “certainly come up, but I don’t think they’ll be the primary focus of what it is we’re trying to accomplish here.”
The two countries will aim to further solidify their global strategic partnership in the dialogue, with a focus on significantly boosting military ties, PTI reported, citing official sources. The two sides will also seek to finalize a pact on encrypted defense technologies, deliberate on ways to boost counter-terror cooperation and try to resolve tariff-related issues. On Thursday afternoon, Swaraj, Sitharaman, Pompeo and Mattis will call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sushma Swaraj will have a separate bilateral meeting with Pompeo while Sitharaman will have a one-on-one meeting with Mattis on Thursday before the 2+2 talks. Twelve officials from each side are expected to attend the talks on Thursday which will be followed by a working lunch

As Secretary Pompeo arrives in Delhi on Wednesday from Islamabad, India will also try to get his view about his engagement with the new government in Pakistan headed by Prime Minister Imran Khan, the sources said. India is also expected to raise its concerns over the Trump administration’s decision to make changes in the H1B visa programme.
